Burra (8) v (3) Whitedale

A fine night and perfect play surface set the scene for the first meeting of the season for this game in Burra. The home team were quickest to settle with a ball driven across from the right wing from Gail Donohue which met the head of Emma Gray to open the scoring in the first five minutes. Whitedale defenders Brenda Leask and Lisa Johnson defended well until Burra strikers Carrie Morrison and Gray worked a one two through the middle resulting in a second for Gray. Burra kept the pressure on with Stacey Laurenson feeding balls through the midfield for Morrison to run onto and slot the ball past the advancing Jessica Bradley. Whitedale midfield of Sarah Grogan, Linda Flaws and Karen Mckelvie got whitedale back into the game with a well worked move resulting in Flaws scoring to put the pressure back on the home team. This was the wake up call they needed showing good play down the left from Gemma Leask who swung the ball in for Donohue to get her first goal for Burra. Gray added another just before half time to make the half time score 4 – 1 to Burra.
Whitedale started the second half playing the better football with Mckelvie switching to the left whos pass was met by Flaws who calmly slotted her second passed the diving Sarah Couper. Burra responded immediately through Gray who’s movement throughout the game giving the Whitedale defenders problems. Both teams began to tire in the last 15 mins due to the heat and continuous end to end action. Leask, Gray and Morrison added goals to Burras lead before Walterson got an consolation goal for whitedale. Best for Whitedale was Linda Flaws while for Burra Kristan Robertson and Emma Gray stand out in an excellent team performance.
