Burra (4) v (1) Whalsay

This game was played in heavy rain with the game only going ahead because of the perfect condition of the burra pitch. The conditions making the ball skid fast on a wet surface giving problems to both teams. Burra started the better with a slight wind advantage trying balls over the top of whalsay defence for Andrea Henderson to attack but whalsays defence of Naomi Johnson and Alison Ramsay held a high line to catch the burra attack offside. Whalsay midfielders Zoe Irvine and Victoria Duthie had a good battle with Burras Stacey Laurenson and Kati Jeromson for midfield possession and spreading the play to the wings. Burras first goal came from good link up play down the left from Kirsten Jeromson to Henderson who laid the ball back to Laurenson who leaned back and let loose a screamer 18 yards out giving Deborah Mowat no chance in goal. This settled Burra and took full advantage of the wind with Couper kicking the ball from goals through the middle for Henderson to latch onto and get the second. Laurenson added a third shortly after with good link up play down the right from Aimee and Shona Keith. Whalsay got back into the game when Kirstan Robertson fouled Abbey Irvine who had made a good run down the right wing resulting in the free kick swung in to the penalty area and fumbled by Couper giving Lauren Ward an easy tap in at the back post to make the score 3-1 at half time.

The second half got under way with heavy rain making conditions awkward. Burra sub Bethany Laurenson came on for the hard working Helen Fullerton scoring the only goal of the second half. Both teams had several chances but couldn’t convert to goals.
